Panther Spikes tree climbers consist of four main components:
Hook
Gaffs
Shell
Binding system
The primary load-bearing component is the hook, manufactured from a specially selected aluminium alloy. The hook undergoes multiple heat-treatment processes to achieve the required mechanical properties and provide a high level of safety and reliability for the climber.
The second load-bearing component is the gaff system, available in short or long. The gaffs are manufactured from alloy steel containing chromium (Cr), nickel (Ni) and molybdenum (Mo).
Following machining and thread cutting, the gaffs undergo heat treatment and tempering to achieve a tensile strength of approximately 1,000–1,200 MPa.
Each gaff is secured to the hook using two M8 bolts, tightened to 25 Nm. A thread-locking compound is applied to the fasteners to help prevent loosening during use.
The gaffs are designed with a clearance that allows the Velcro ankle strap to pass through, helping secure the climber's foot and maintain stability around the ankle.
The gaff grinding angle is 30° relative to the perpendicular to the base.
The third component is the shell, which forms the main calf-support structure. It is manufactured from multiple layers of glass-fibre fabric and reinforced with a carbon-fibre strip.
The shell incorporates a series of mounting holes, allowing the position of the calf support to be adjusted to suit the individual climber.
The shell is secured to the hook using two M6 bolts. A padded calf support is attached to the shell using Velcro. The pad is shaped longitudinally to provide improved comfort and support during climbing.
The climber's leg is secured to the hook using textile straps with Velcro closures and click buckles at the ankles.
The binding system is designed to keep the climber's foot, ankle and lower leg securely positioned within the climber while allowing the fit to be adjusted to suit the individual user.
